Netflix and Solve
– Crimewatch
Crimewatch is live ‘event’ television, which airs every 5-6 weeks – it doesn’t have a regular slot. How can the BBC maintain engagement outside broadcasts? Crime happens all the time. Crimewatch should too.
Research has shown that people who watch TV crime dramas have healthier brains and are better at noticing and remembering details.
Our solution? Crimewatch and Netflix team up to offer crime TV fans a win-win situation – enjoy more of your favourite content and solve real crimes in the process.

TV crime dramas challenge viewers to pay attention to complicated stories, including red herrings, and to remember them from episode to episode. This provides great stimulation for the brain, which in turn helps keep it healthy – and healthier brains are better at solving real life crime.

Create a new ‘Watch Instantly’ genre: Crime – including documentaries, TV series and films – offering guilt-free binge watching.

Those who select this genre are given the chance to opt in to Netflix and Solve. This allows them to unlock bonus material and early releases by watching short Crimewatch clips featuring e-fits and CCTV footage of crimes local to their area.
They can then send anonymous information through Netflix if any of the details or images ring a bell.
